Latest update on Canada student visa applications for international students
September 2024 update:
Author: University of Windsor
Following yesterday’s announcement from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) regarding the updates to temporary residence programs, the University of Windsor would like to reassure its current and prospective international students of our ongoing commitment to supporting them through their academic journey in Canada.
UWindsor has already implemented a streamlined process for issuing Provincial Attestation Letters (PALs) for undergraduate and graduate students. Even before this announcement, UWindsor has proactively issued PALs to graduate students who may need them for their study permit applications. We will continue to provide this support for all students—undergraduate or graduate—helping them navigate the study permit process effectively.
The University of Windsor remains a welcoming and safe environment for international students. Our institution is dedicated to developing high-quality programs that meet the demands of Ontario’s and Canada’s labour markets. UWindsor offers two-year, course-based master’s programs in various fields, including engineering, computer science, management, education, biotechnology, chemical engineering, economics, actuarial science, and more.
These programs are designed to be completed within 16 months, providing students with the latest knowledge from world-class researchers and industry partners, enabling them to secure employment in their field immediately upon graduation. The spouses of our master’s students remain eligible for open work permits, and our graduates qualify for a three-year post-graduation work permit.
Employers highly value our graduates, and they have played a vital role in contributing to the socioeconomic growth of Ontario and Canada. The University of Windsor will continue to train highly skilled professionals to support Canada’s ongoing development.
Students who have already received an offer of admission for Winter 2025, Spring 2025, or Fall 2025 from the University of Windsor are encouraged to apply for their study permit before November 1 to minimize potential delays or impacts on their study permit applications. UWindsor offers study permit services for all international students to further ease the process. We invite you to join our webinar on Wednesday, September 25, to learn more about the study permit support services available and how we can assist you every step of the way.
