What is the Express Entry (EE) Program in Canada 

Express Entry (EE) is an online immigration application system. It allows people to submit a profile and be considered a skilled immigrant. Candidates with the highest rankings are invited to apply for permanent residency. EE is the fastest way of immigration for Highly skilled personals

How does EE work?

  • When you fill out a profile for Express Entry, your application will be ranked according to a points system.
  • If you are highly ranked, you will be invited to apply for permanent residence as a skilled immigrant.
  • Once you have applied, your PR application will then be processed within the next 6 to 8 months.

Which Immigration Programs Does EE Cover?

  • You must have to use Express Entry to apply for:
  • The Skilled Worker Program
  • The Skilled Trades Program
  • The Canadian Experience Class

P:S Some candidates for Ontario’s Provincial Nominee Program are also selected through Express Entry.

How are EE profile points determined?

Your Express Entry profile will get points based on:

  • Your education level;
    Your abilities in English and/or French (Canada’s 2 official languages);
    Your work experience and skills;
    Your age:
    If you have a job offer in Canada; and
    Your spouse’s education, language abilities, and work experience.
    Additional points are also awarded if you have completed a college or university program in Canada or if you have a provincial nomination.

Please note that EE points are different from the Federal Skilled Worker point system.

  • The Skilled Worker Program
  • The Skilled Trades Program
  • The Canadian Experience Class

Some candidates for Ontario’s Provincial Nominee Program are also selected through Express Entry.

How Does EE Choose People for PR?

Once you submit a profile, your profile will be entered into a pool (group) of all the people who have currently applied for Express Entry.You will then be ranked against other people in the pool. Your ranking is based on the number of points you have.

If you are at the top of the rankings, your profile will be drawn (selected) from the list of applications. You will then get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence as a skilled immigrant.

Government Fee

Government Processing Fee for Express Entry (EE)

Government processing fees have to be paid to IRCC in order to process your file. There are two types of government processing fees: the processing fee and the right of permanent residence fee.

The processing fees are:

  1. $550 CAD for you
  2. $550 CAD if you have an accompanying spouse or common-law partner
  3. $150 CAD for each dependent child.

The right of permanent residence fees are:

  1. $490 CAD for you,
  2. $490 CAD if you have an accompanying spouse or common-law partner.

There is no right of permanent residence fees for dependent children.

In addition to these major fees, there may also be fees associated with the various documents that you’ll require for your Express Entry application.

For instance, you may need to pay for an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for any post-secondary education received outside of Canada.

Estimated cost: 275 CAD to 500 CAD

You may also need to pay to take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for immigration. May cost you CAD 280 to 300 CAD only for the test examination fee

Medical will cost 100 to 120 CAD

Keep in mind that these fees are subject to change by IRCC. 

Application Turnaround Time

Usually, Express Entry applications would take 6 to 10 months.
